Salt Lake City is farther west than Tucson and due north of Tempe.

I wonder how often players 66-76 even see the field in non-blowouts. 65 gives you three players for almost every position and a few punter/kicker/special teams specialists.

I guess if it does make a difference, that should be reflected in the results and eventually in betting spreads on home teams. I think Sagarin estimates home field as worth about 3 points over a neutral field, so if travel squad size cuts matter, maybe that advantage will rise to 3.2 points or something.

Noted. Most I’ve seen make $150,000 or so, but it’s been a while since I’ve been around CFB.

I suspect that he's referring to the home teams that do this, although in some cases visiting teams could as well. That would depend on the travel time and game time, I would think.

The only thing home teams staying in a hotel does is enforce a curfew so some dipshits don’t get into a bar fight or get popped for a DWI the night before a game.

Yeah, and team meals the night before/day of game and conference rooms for positional meetings. Like many things with college football, it's unnecessary and we will start seeing lots more cuts like this.

It really screams for the regionalization of a lot of the Olympic sports across conferences. Like the Pac-12 having Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield as associate members for wrestling. Or how some
West Coast D2 and D3 schools formed their own swimming conference.
