Smoke up, Losers!

PREACH.

The first hour is always a bit tough but once the fire gets to where you want it and you just have to tend to the wood/coal/meats, it's the best. I have a pellet grill, offset smoker and a Weber kettle and some of the best backyard days I've had is when I'm working all three.

I'd love to get a new "real" smoker but I can't kill the one I have. It's a New Braunfels (not an OG - I got it in '02 and I think they were in Char-Broil's hands by then) and even with the thin wall steel it refuses to rust out and call it quits.

 

The smoking and non smoking sections of airplanes....

 

Yeah, no doubt.

The smoking on a transatlantic flight back in the day was pornographic.

 

In 1983, I was 18, and flew from Dulles to LAX (in a gawdawful suit, no less), and sat in the smoking section with my parents.
I'm sure I had the lungs of an 80 year-old by the time I was 18.

Insane.

 

The writers who traveled on the Dodgers plane in the '70s and '80s sat in the back few rows, along with the team's smokers: Steve Yeager and Derrel Thomas.

 

My mother, God love her, would take me to the orthodontist as a kid, chain-smoke for an hour.
The Buick Oldsmobile (later my first car) was so saturated with smoke if you thumped the upholstery, the smell of smoke would emit.
One time a teacher asked me if I'd been smoking after one of these trips to an appointment, so heavy was the scent of second-hand smoke.

 

Oh, I have smoking stories to match any of you guys.
Our vacations driving somewhere up or down the east coast, raining out, windows closed, and mom and dad smoking up a storm.

When my mom passed away a few years ago, my brother and I split the duties. Me, as the successor trustee, handled every single thing, except getting that house (smoke filled for decades) ready for sale. My brother had to practically bring in a hazmat team to get the house ready for sale.

My brother had the tougher job.

 

For a second, I thought you’d moved to a green state.

 

My parents both smoke like crazy. They always have. Their house, built in 1973, will be a beast to try to get the smell out some day, and it likely won't come out.
Whenever I'm over there for more than about two minutes, I have to come home and change shirts.
I look back in horror to when I was a kid and wonder if I smelled like an ash tray when I went to school. I'm sure I did.

 

Does everyone get that they were not talking about cigarette smoking?

 

Also: Who ever made this thread shouldn't have put it in Sports and News. .... but it was Sunday and he was day drinking and spitting fire at his neighbors.
