If you’re already under contract for the season that begins the 17 game schedule, do you get a 5.8%(1/17th) increase or do you work for less money on a per game basis?

 

One of the thing's JJ Watt is opposed to is capping the 17th game check to $250k. Last I checked about one-fourth of the league made north of $4m a year, which would mean they would be taking a haircut on an existing contract.

if the union approves it they deserve what they get. Whomever runs that union and lacks the ability to negotiate a better deal is sad

It’s the smart move. Why tie up 20-40 million over a few years on an aging QB when you can use the money to reload the O ad D lines and get young and cheap at the skill positions.

 

I think the whole thing depends on Belichick. Brady wants to stay and would sign for anything reasonable. Going somewhere else would be too much change.

 

Each party's definition of "reasonable" may significantly differ.
