Villa, which has been the top club in the Midlands since the EPL was founded, would sadly never lend themselves to this type of camaraderie.

Basically Villa are the Cubs, the team with the big reach. BCFC are the White Sox — the city's team.

So, does this mean that fifth place from the Premier League automatically qualifies for CL now? Or does the Prem lose that spot to someone else?

There will of course be the inevitable stay but Pep could walk if this holds up.

The ban was against the club, not the league. So yes, there will be hope for the red side of town.

I read about financial improprieties with Man City, but are there actual financial rules that teams have to abide in the UEFA? I always figured it was money wins.

Money wins but you can't go into horrible debt to do it. Man City is owned by a gazillionaire so it's not like they're going to fold, but seems like their financial juggling was unacceptable according to the rules..

It's not that they overspent. It's that they fudged the numbers and moved money around from the wrong places, and then lied about it to UEFA.

They can cite all the bullshit they want to CAS in their appeal; unless they're going to claim the Der Speigel emails were faked, they're fucked. It's all in writing.

EDIT: However, I wouldn't put it past Mansour to spread around as much slave-labor petrobucks as needed to make this go away.
