That leaves the Dodgers above the tax line.

MLB is seriously weighing a move from five to seven playoff teams in each league beginning in 2022, The Post has learned.

In this concept, the team with the best record in each league would receive a bye to avoid the wild-card round and go directly to the Division Series. The two other division winners and the wild card with the next best record would each host all three games in a best-of-three wild-card round. So the bottom three wild cards would have no first-round home games.

The NASCAR people think this is a fucked up playoff system.

At the rate he's going, Manfred is not only threatening Bettman's spot on the bottom rung of active commissioners, he may surpass Gen. Eckert as Worst Commissioner Ever.

    Good move...

If you make the playoffs with an 84-78 record, that is actually within reach of any MLB team. It would do away with five years of tanking to put together one prospect heavy team each decade.

More teams have worked for football and other sports.

If you have a shot it may stop 3/4 of the league from tanking.

I kind of think the current set-up is brilliant forcing WCs to burn their top starter to advance. The problem is the tanking teams which not only take the zip out of a pennant chase because there are so few teams watching scoreboards, making for fewer meaningful games down the stretch. There is too much incentive to tank, with draft picks, low payroll, extra draft picks, revenue sharing. Pick one or two. Move the trade deadline to Aug. 15, maybe even Sept. 1 - teams waving the white flag with two months of the season left (one-third) probably doesn't do a lot for the chase either.
I'd also like to see leagues not just baseball waive whatever salary caps they have for the final month (reinstated after the playoffs) - allowing those players who get moved to declare free agency if they wish.

I mean if you are going to propose something stupid this -- go back to 154 game schedule and have eight teams in a straight bracket -- every series is 7 games -- with the three division winners asthe top 3 seeds and the wild card with the best record is the 4th seed and they all host in the quarterfinals. Higher seed in every round through LCS hosts, the World Series host is the team with the best record.

When they did away with the waiver trade deadline, the most logical thing was to move the only remaining trade deadline to Aug. 15 to give teams an extra two weeks to see where there were in the standings.

There have been horrible horrible teams as long as there has been baseball, under every economic system the game has had. Believe you me, there were many Phillies teams of the '50s through the early '70s that were hopelessly out of the race by the start of NFL exhibitions and basically out of the race by my June 30 birthday. Teams don't just suck because they're "tanking." They suck because they're bad organizations with bad ownership. The Mets don't tank, they're dumb.

I can’t think of a dumber way to try to gain fans and popularity than by constantly telling the public that your game is broken.

It’s really simple. Pitcher is allowed to throw as soon as he’s ready, whether the batter is in the box, out of the box, ready or not. Batters will immediately stop all the adjustments, walking around and histrionics. You’ll see 300 Aaron Judges in the box waiting for the next pitch.

Eliminate replay. Eight warmup pitches only, no matter why or when a pitcher enters the game.

Pretty soon, games will be 2.5 hours and fans will pay more attention.
