    Right, something vital was missing.

    Same thing with Once Upon a Time...

    I always felt that Sandler wasn’t going to get nominated. It’s unfair, but can’t help but believe that his two and a half decades of repeatedly making crass comedic films hurt his chances of being taken seriously here. It’s taken more serious actors several good roles before they were nominated.

    Punch Drunk Love? That 9-11 movie with Don Cheadle where Sandler lost his wife and three daughters in one of the planes? He's done some pretty heavy stuff.

    To understand the Academy Awards as anything else is to misunderstand them.
