Wilson, Mahomes, Rodgers, Jackson, Brady, Watson and a host of others all depreciated after their first snaps?

Yes, they LITERALLY depreciated. It's back-up qb syndrome. Absolutely there are qbs who were "bought low" and and are now starting. And there are many who were the next Montana, who quickly proved they weren't. Jimmy Clausen, Jim Druckenmiller, Josh Rosen, Heath Schuler, Brady Quinn, Johnny Manziel, Mariota, RGIII, Trubisky, Winston, Paxton Lynch, Bortles, Locker, Ponder, Gabbert. All projected as "franchise qbs" not fliers by a coach or a scout, but expected to be cornerstones in the years ahead.

How did they depreciate the second they took a snap? The value they would have returned on any trade would have been higher than where they were drafted.

And yet how often do quarterbacks acquired through trades win the Super Bowl? Foles and Brees but who else recently? Almost all are won by guys drafted by that organization, though not necessarily in the first round. Wilson was a third rounder, Brady a 6. But a lot of first rounders: Mannings, Roethlisberger, Flacco. Foles is really rare in that he was drafted by the Eagles and then went elsewhere — AZ included — and then came back to the Eagles, but as a backup.

    Technically, Eli was traded.

Yeah for another first round pick (Rivers) and some other things. He wasn’t kidnapped off someone’s bench.

Brees was a free agent - probably the best FA quarterback signing of all-time, since any QB average or better is usually re-upped by his drafting team. And he only got to the market because of a bad knee injury, IIRC.

You’re right. I don’t know how I forgot that. Dolphins had option to sign him or Culpepper. They chose poorly.

Correct. Brees suffered a dislocated shoulder with a torn labrum and a 50 percent tear of his rotator cuff. It was a brutal injury and there was concern regarding his health long term.

I'll throw in Dilfer, Young, Warner, Brad Johnson, Williams, Thiesman, Unitas, Favre, Len Dawson, and Plunkett.

Still waiting to hear how all QB’s value depreciates after they take their first snaps. That car analogy would make @Baron Scicluna proud.
