    The LaFollette Press is seeking a sports editor. The position's primary responsibilities include coverage of local sports, but also in sports features and taking sports stories beyond routine game coverage.

    The LaFollette Press is a Thursday weekly paper with a circulation of approximately 5,000. LaFollette is located about 33 miles north of Knoxville, Tennessee, in Campbell County, on the Cumberland Plateau. The town is surrounded by mountains and lakes, and has a population of approximately 44,000. The newspaper offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) and paid time off benefits.     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
    • Good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills
    • Be able to accurately edit own copy and submitted copy
    • Be able to write interesting, accurate headlines
    • Good photography skills and knowledge of Photoshop
    • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, to design the sports section on a weekly basis
    • Experience and drive to use social media
    • Good communication, organization, and time management skills
    • Experience scheduling stringers
    • Available to work evenings and weekends
    • Valid driver's license,proof of vehicle insurance and reliable transportation to travel to assignments
    Essential Functions:

    • Plan and organize sports coverage for each issue of the paper and special sections
    • Write crisp, accurate and compelling stories, headlines and photo captions
    • Develop relationships with area coaches to facilitate the flow of information to the newspaper
    • Design and layout weekly sports pages and other pages as needed
    • Assist in production (including layout and design) of newspaper and special sections as needed
    • Provide stories for special sections
    • Shoot clear and compelling photos
    • Load stories and photos onto the website
    • Serve as a backup for other members of the news team
    • Work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment; meet or beat deadlines
    Work Schedule: Hourly, full-time up to 40 hours a week with evening and weekend work required.
