    Daily Journal seeks full-time sports reporter

    The Daily Journal in Kankakee, Ill., has an opening in its sport department for a writer with a passion for local sports.

    Your primary responsibility will be coverage of local sports, but here you’ll also get to write sports features and the chance to take sports stories beyond routine game coverage. You may also participate in our podcast.

    Required education and skills:

    Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field

    Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills

    Be able to accurately edit own copy and submitted copy

    Be able to write interesting, accurate headlines

    Experience and drive to use social media

    Available to work evenings and weekends

    Ability to work under deadline pressure

    Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance and reliable transportation to travel to assignments

    Skills that will put you on top of the stack:

    Photography skills and knowledge of Photoshop

    Previous experience with page design using InDesign

    Experience with content management systems

    A digital-storytelling mindset

    Ability to drive social media traffic

    Kankakee, Ill., is located an hour south of Chicago and covers teams in the Kankakee Valley area. We are a family-owned newspaper and offer a full benefit package.
