Over-under on when the "Why I'm joining The Athletic" tweet appears? All the buzzwords are there.

If he is it would be for something else. They already have 2 reporters on Carolina.

He originally was Charlotte's NASCAR writer . . . when the paper in NASCAR's hub --- whose offices are literally in the NASCAR Hall of Fame building --- could afford a NASCAR writer.

Late to the game here, but didn’t dude just start covering the Panthers for the Observer?

Yep. He was an intern a few years ago, covered NASCAR and provided preps and Panthers coverage when needed. When the Athletic poached Person and ESPN snagged Louis-Jacques, Marks slid into the Panthers role with Rodrigue, who is also now with the Athletic.

    I'm just a crappy boss.

Interviews for our NASCAR opening have started.

I think it was five months.

I'm sure Matt Stephens can speak to this, but before Alaina Getzenberg was hired, there were two Panthers positions listed here on the McClatchy site: McClatchy

They were identical or nearly identical, if I remember. After they hired Getzenberg one was taken down, the other remained.

They might have had a better chance to solidify the Panthers beat if they hadn't taken months to hire a sports editor.
