Has he managed another HOFer besides Gwynn and Hoffman?

He had bonds for a season, and there are some who want to see Omar! Vizquel in the Hall.

It never occurred to me that anyone might make the case that he doesn't belong.

And Wednesday's win in Boston was No. 2,000. Seals it.

My point about managing HoFers is that there was no way Torre was going in pre-Yankees and LaRussa inherited his share - never really managed a "rebuilding" team.
Like Cy Young's record for losses never broken, don't know if there will be another HOF manager with 12 sub .500 seasons Torre had 11.

I kind of see what you are saying, but while the teams he took over in Chicago and Oakland weren’t terrible, they weren’t good.

Oakland has four straight losing seasons and was 31-42 when he took over in 1986. He got them over .500 the rest of the way and two years later they were in the World Series. Yes, a lot of the pieces were in Oakland- Canseco, McGwire(late season call up), Lansford and Phillips. Dave Stewart was there, but was underutilized.

Chicago also as bad in the 1970s, but the team he took over in 1979 looked almost nothing like the team he won with in 1983.
