I guess he's laughing. He certainly isn't coaching.

Lincoln Riley is 35 years old. He'll be in the NFL before he's 38.

Why when one has a chance to be at a school that will pay close to NFL level salary for a decade or more if you're a consistent winner would one jump to some loser NFL franchise where the odds of being fired after two or three years is very high? Nick Saban treated Miami disgracefully. But he figured out he wasn't cut out for the NFL, which was treating himself very well.

    Why?
He's making 6 million dollars per year at OU now.
Gets another 1 million dollar bonus if he's at the school in April 2021.
Why go through the headache and the stress?
If I'm him, I'm staying my ass right there in Norman and never ever leaving. See: Stoops, Bob.
They can mention his name for every job under God's Blue Heaven, but he's never going anywhere.

For one, no more recruiting bullshit and NCAA to deal with. For another, you climb that mountain because it's there. For another, maybe he'd be really good as an NFL coach and set himself up with generational money.

And, hell, if he sucked in the NFL, there would be a shit-ton of schools willing to offer him crazy money in his return to college.

At least wait until you start hearing from the alums - then wait until Jerry offers a Gruden deal (plus 10 percent).

    Mussburger would have encouraged that.

People don't seem to grasp that college football isn't going anywhere and the same money that is there now will be there after he spends five years in the NFL and makes $50M to suck or he happens to be good and make twice that much.

Plus these guys live for challenging themselves. Nick Saban had no reason to leave LSU for the Miami Dolphins other than he wanted the challenge of coaching pro. He didn't like it, left and got a better job going back to college. Money is way too good not to try. He's 35 years old and might not want to spend the next 20 in Norman, Oklahoma.

He should already have that, if he has a lick of common sense.

A big time college football coach who's a consistent winner is an emperor. Belichick, the winningest coach in post Super Bowl NFL history, isn't even that. He has an occasionally uneasy power-sharing arrangement with Kraft and Brady. An NFL coach faces CONSTANT insecurity a top-shelf college coach never does. And as Chip Kelly is proving, it ain't that easy to move to the NFL, fail, then return to college and succeed.

Even Belichick has been reminded by Kraft in the last few years who the owner is. Same thing Jones pulled on Johnson.
