If you can establish rapports with high-profile recruits and generate award-winning enterprise and breaking news -- we've got a great opportunity for you.
PennLive is seeking a driven, talented writer/reporter to join our dynamic statewide staff (19 APSEs in the past three years).
We travel with Penn State, the Eagles, Ravens and Steelers and consider ourselves the statewide authority on recruiting.
Here's the posting sports editor Greg Pickel and assistant sports editor Brian Linder put together.
I'll be glad to answer any questions.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

PennLive.com is seeking a versatile reporter to join its award-winning sports department.

This unique opportunity will focus on high school sports reporting with opportunities to contribute to our Penn State and NFL teams along with general assignments, both locally and statewide.

The ideal candidate will understand the value of increasing audience and using social media to not only interact with our readers but also to find the stories impacting them. They'll be able to jump right into a busy local sports scene and transition weekly between a variety of sports, highlighted by our Friday night football coverage. Night and weekend work will be expected and travel throughout our coverage area.

Proven success in digital news or sports is a must. Previous newspaper experience isn't required, but you should be able to demonstrate journalistic standards, writing ability, web-style storytelling and the ability to quickly recognize and react to trending news in the sports world. Video producing and photo editing experience is a plus.

Upload your resume and provide links to the best work you've written. Don't bother linking to routine gamers or features. Send something that will make you stand out.

Also, don't waste time with a traditional cover letter. Just tell us why you'd be a good candidate to help build on what our team has already accomplished: A multi-year run as one of the top websites in the country according to the Associated Press Sports Editors, and various awards for breaking news, enterprise, projects, and video. PennLive accrued seven million unique content views in July 2019, and we're seeking someone who is innovative to seek out the stories our readers want most.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications or related field
    • Proven experience building, maintaining and engaging an active audience
    • Ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
    • Mastery of social media and digital interaction
    • Proven ability to utilize a broad set of tools to tell stories and engage the audience

Uh, what is a traditional cover letter if not a letter saying why you'd be a good fit for the job?

Obviously a state wide position, but where would the reporter’s home base be most of the time?

Assuming the salary on this sucks, what’s the cost of living in Harrisburg? Can a single guy make it work?

Qualified candidate must know the name of every school in in the state with "Area" in its name. That's a Pennsylvania thing.
