    The highest retired number is # 72, Carlton Fisk, by the White Sox.

    The Red Sox also retired his #27.

    In what year did half of the teams in the NFL start a quarterback who ended up in the HOF? And who were the qbs? (Each was a legit qb, so not a trick where an RB lined up under center to start the game)

    Ha, good guess, but the raiders alone had two of those 11, which leaves 10 of 26

    confused. so there was a year when there were 13 starting HOFers? Thought your last question said the most HOFers to throw a pass in a season was 11. Did two of them somehow start and not throw a pass?

    Don't know the answer, but I'm guessing it happened before the merger, when the NFL had 16 teams (or less).
