And now the Mets have Joe Panik, who the Giants for some reason think is a lesser player than Scooter Gennett.

Hey, sometimes you hit on 18, and a 3 comes up. Doesn't mean it was a great idea. They're only a half game back in the wild card standings, and the NL seems to have a bunch of good-not-great teams. They seem like the yo-yo team of late July / early August, like the Giants were before them. It seems just as likely we'll be talking about some other team two weeks from now, and the Mets will have 3-7.

I know but still glad to see someone avoid standing on 16.

Neither of them has been particularly good this year, but Gennett was the better player the last two seasons.

Joe Panik was a no-risk move for the Mets. Seeing if the change of scenery would jolt him into form. Easy call once Cano got hurt.

The odd thing is, when they picked up Panik, most thought light-hitting, good glove Luis Guillorme would be sent down. Instead, they keep Guillorme, start him over Panik and he hits his first career home run to tie the game in the 8th.

    That's baseball Suzyn.

With a tough schedule, the Mets are still a longshot for the playoffs. But this is some kind of run.

EDIT: Guillorme didn’t start. He it was a pinch-hit homer

Nice win by the Giants. What a steal by Farhan to get Yaz from the Orioles.

Three out of four from the Phillies was huge after falling apart following the trade deadline. At this point, the Giants being at or very close to .500 will be a win for this season.

Farhan has been extremely savvy with his pickups. After the disaster of Connor Joe and Michael Reed (throw in Gerardo Parra because he was on the opening day roster but is no longer with the team), guys like Pillar, Yaz and Dickerson have the Giants looking bright for 2020. They need a No. 4 starter, another bullpen piece and probably one more big bat and they'll challenge for a playoff run.
