The football is terriffic, but college football MUST find a way to give people north of the Mason-Dixon line a reason to care about the sport.

Let's look at the Acela Corridor and its college teams. Boston: BC. Anyone who didn't go there, which is most of Boston, hates them. In 45 years of living here, only Doug Flutie got the average fan interested in college football. New York City: Army, Rutgers. Philadelphia: Temple, Penn State sort of. It's a huge football town, as long as you're talking high schools and the Eagles. Baltimore: Maryland. DC: Maryland and UVa. It is unimaginable that there will be a renaissance of FBS football interest anywhere in the nation's largest concentration of people.

And it's been that way for generations. Growing up in New Jersey in the 1980s and 90s, it was all about the pro sports. High school football was a small blip on the radar, and college football was nowhere to be found. One of the biggest culture shocks of going from there to an SEC school was adjusting to how big and important college football is in another part of the country.

I should add that in Boston the Patriots have killed what little interest in college ball there was in the first place. When you're seeing history's best on Sunday, why bother seeing lesser football on Saturday?

If only more people SOUTH of the Mason-Dixon Line would stop acting as if they're pros. That's when the trouble usually starts.

I was just glancing through the Week 1 slate, and am trying to figure out what in the world Syracuse is doing going to Lynchburg to play Liberty for?

They couldn't stay at home to play that?

EDIT: I am kinda glad they're putting the Weed War (Colorado-Colorado State) on ESPN primetime on that Friday Night.

Clemson is terrific. The SEC West is terrific. Georgia has been for two years. That’s not everyone.

Florida State and Tennessee were turd baskets the last two seasons. The Gus Bus is 8-5 per since 2013.

They go to Syracuse in 2020 and 2021, so it's probably a 2-for-1 deal.
They also have home games with Virginia Tech (2022 - in November, no less), Wake Forest (2025), Duke (2026) and Virginia (2027) further down the line. In fact, it looks like they're starting a multi-year home-and-home series with both Virginia and Virginia Tech by the end of the 2020s.

Despicable that anybody would legitimize this hate factory by playing them.

Having grown up in Northern NJ and then gone to Maryland for a couple of years of HS and college and stayed there, I don’t understand people who follow a college football team but didn’t go to that school.
