Parker also is part of a trick question I love: name the three Hall of Famers to have hit a home run in their first MLB at bat.

Not bench, but he played in the same division.

Maybe Greasy Neale? I know he was on the 1919 Reds and later won an nfl title as a coach.

Nope. He played in, but didn’t win a World Series.

Good point. I didn’t clarify that both titles were won by the guy as a player.

I’ll give a hint. The guy won both titles as a player in them 1920s.

Ha, let me clarify. I was thinking maybe Neale played on one of the early Ohio teams that dominated the nfl.

Another hint: Both of the championships were won with a New York team.

Nope. Only played briefly on the 1919 Yanks, who didn’t win anything. Never played for a New York football team.

Since I gave it a day, I’ll give the answer: Hinkey Haines.

He was a reserve outfielder on the 1923 Yanks, and scored an important run as a pinch runner in the Series clincher. It was his only major league season.

He was also the football Giants’ first major star (Jim Thorpe played a couple of games, but was washed up), and was a top player on their 1927 NFL title team.

Baron, that was a damn good piece of trivia. Even when I gave up guessing and started to look (based on your NY clue), I still didn’t get it. Though, at one point, Cal Hubbard popped into my head because I knew he played on NFL title teams, and later umped in the MLB, but was pretty sure he never played in the Majors. I ended up reading up on his career, and spent time reading about the 27 Giants.
