Not to mention with the mileage on LeBron's tires, I can't see the Lakers not giving him a dozen or so games off, even if he isn't officially "injured."

It probably won't be this year, but at some point, I think Luca Doncic will own the west.

LeBron needs play in the 65 game area. Getting Davis and giving up 5 years of draft choices means they want to win now. 3 draft choices and 2 years of swapping if they have a better slot than NOLA. LBJ has 3 years left.

Figure out how to win 49 games with LBJ and AD in the lineup 65 times. Rest them both at the same time. Sit them for road games until Christmas

Surprised Magic hasn't tweeted out his "blessing" of the move.

Just a slight correction -- it's not the next five years of draft choices. It's basically three picks, one of which is No. 4. (Pick No. 1)
The Pelicans get 2021 if it is in the top 8. If not, they get the 2022 pick regardless. (Pick No. 2).
The 2023 is a potenial swap. It is not guaranteed to be traded
The Pelicans get the 2024 pick or the 2025 pick, depending on if New Orleans wants to defer to 2025 (Pick No. 3).

The Lakers have their pick in 2020 and will have it if they make the playoffs in 2021.

The Stepien Rule still exists, and it's one of the best rules ever enacted in professional sports.

Good trade for the Pelicans - Davis wasn't on their "timeline" anyway - it will be interesting to see how high the Lakers choices are in the coming years, probably good enough to build a good supporting cast around Zion. It will be interesting if Ball is still a part of NO in a year or two.

Eastern Conference teams that only have one home game against the Lakers will shit bricks at that idea. (As will the bookies, quite coincidentally.)

The Lakers without LBJ and AD are a G-league team.

Although, they could probably get away with it completely fine by putting them on the inactive list with some vaguely non-specific condition like "tendinitis" or "inflammation."

However, you can only put three guys on the inactive list at a time, so the Lakers could run into some problems if they have more than one player with a nagging injury situation that they need to return to health, especially if LeBron and AD are taking up inactive slots on a preventative basis (ie they're actually in possible playing shape but are sitting out to prevent overuse injury).

On the other hand, they don't have to
be inactive, they could dress and everything, just sit down at the end of the bench for a DNP-CD.
