Always wondered why Congress doesn't offer free (or reduced rate) housing to legislators and staffers. Have building for House of Reps, for staffers for the Senate. Make them suites or quads with a shared kitchen. Probably especially helpful to interns.

Those quasi-annual stories about reps living out of their own offices make for better reading than those about housing allowance fraud.

In the House, the bill has 304 co-sponsors so I’m guessing the speech was as much for the Senate as anything. Or just the sake of Stewart grandstanding. At any rate, it’s gonna pass.

As for why they have to ask for more money: The fund went through 5 billion in 4 years, when they last asked for authorization in 2015. The bill will federally fund every claim, including those of children near ground zero, until 2090.
