We're looking for a driven beat reporter to cover the Carolina Panthers. Our Panthers reporters work in a competitive, fast-paced environment to break news and to deliver exclusive enterprise and smart analysis.

The Panthers beat reporter should have a deep knowledge of the NFL and be adept at building team and league sources. A strong source network is vital to being out front of competitors, and the Panthers reporter must be able to find and break news, cover breaking news with urgency and develop compelling story lines and analysis. A successful reporter on this beat will be skilled at developing a broad following on social media, and using social platforms to put our journalism in front of readers and potential readers, cultivate source and engage with sports fans to develop story ideas.

To apply, send letter, resume and 6-10 of your best stories to Sherry Chisenhall, executive editor, at obsjobs@gmail.com.

Both beat writers are leaving? In any case, the paper is littered with job openings since the buyouts. The vacancies include managing editor.

She says she can't reveal her new job yet, which fits the pattern of The Athletic announcing new hires in groups. Probably part of any realigning The Athletic is doing heading into NFL training camps.

No idea where the paper sits in terms of filling the two openings, but I guess they're giving another writer a trial run of sorts? ...

In related news, "North Carolina senior sports editor" position has been filled by one of sj.com's own.

I'll let him announce it if/when he wants to.

They certainly could have done the new sports editor a favor by getting it done a little sooner. I believe the three papers would still be lacking at least one assistant sports editor (regardless of title) and at least one NFL writer. Not to mention they lost one assistant's position as part of the buyouts this spring.
