Policy moves now will have a gigantic political cost later. I don't think there's a day when the Alabama laws goes into effect, but it won't be forgotten.

Socially, America's going to be pretty libertarian. Economically, the same is looking true. (May not bode well for the environment.)

Honestly? We're nowhere near The Handmaid's Tale, even as I concede it makes a compelling protest image at hearings and whatnot. The nations closest to it are our modern-day theocracies.

Not to mention all the ultraconservative judicial appointments, to the Supreme Court and elsewhere, that are happening now and are still yet to happen in the Trump administration that will still have a strong presence in Alma's speculative liberal dystopia...

That’s why so many states are passing similar bills
They’re also counting on RBG to be dead and replaced by Amy Comey Barrett by the time it comes up

She only has to live long enough to equal the time between Obama's nomination and the 2016 election. (I am not explaining that very well.) Anyone know the exact date?

Are you suggesting that if the seat opens up near the end of President Trump's term, that would be reason not to confirm his nominee? Sure, that would be fair, but the Republicans still control the Senate. He could lose the election and have a seat open up the next day and his nominee would still end up on the court.

The Republicans will not care about consistency. They will care only about shoving another of their chosen onto the Supreme Court. The Democrats won't be able to stop them.

There is very little difference between having all of the means in the hands of an aristocracy or in the hands of billionaires.

The Republicans cannot possibly allow the Democrats to take control of the presidency and Senate again.

They must prevent this by any and all means conceivable.
