    ExxonMobil gambles on growth

An interesting article about ExxonMobil's strategy going forward and what it means for oil production and climate change.

“The city that moves the most is Wasilla, Alaska, which if emissions aren’t cut back could feel like eastern Wisconsin, 11 degrees warmer in the summer. It’s a change of about 2,720 miles (4,379 kilometers).”

Sarah Palin’s hometown, although I am positive the irony was not lost on the author of the piece.

Turns out building your capital on a swamp has downsides. Talk of relocating ministries and decentralizing power was a regular thing while I lived in the Big Durian -- 10 years later and exactly none of it has happened. They might relocate government offices, but getting industry and millions of people to do likewise will be much harder. Odds are a compromise will be something like Putra Jaya in Malaysia, a government hub that's essentially a satellite city of Kuala Lumpur.

People complain about the cost of curbing climate change - we're going to pay either way.
Here’s how much climate change could cost the U.S.

And that's just this country. Imagine how much climate migration will impact global relations and cause military conflicts. It's going to make the middle east look like a spring training split-squad game.

Houston was built on a swamp. IIRC, so was Washington DC.
