I heard a report that a lot of artifacts had been removed due to the renovation. It's a small consolation. They are also trying to salvage some of the art in the back of the cathedral. On the BFM coverage in France they were saying they were trying to protect the rose windows, but that is probably going to be a lost cause. It's still not contained.

This makes me sad. Paris has such a wonderful blend of modernity and history.

I played St. Vincent's "Fire in Paris" this afternoon. Burn me in hell.

Sound as if the next 90 minutes are the key if they are going to save the structure.

I just don’t understand firefighting; seems to me a city the size of Paris could assemble enough resources to put a fire of any magnitude out.

This echoes my thoughts on California wildfires too.

Seems like some time in the last 100 years they'd have wired in a fire suppression system.*

*I don't know a damn thing about fires, fighting fires, 1,000-year-old cathedrals, fire suppression systems, installing anything in old buildings or Paris.

Translation: "Everything that could've burned, burned. We saved the granite."
