Baines is right. He left Chicago and was replaced as DH by Frank Thomas.

    I have a guess, but I looked at a list of HOFers, so I won't say i

The website I saw listed Baines as the DH in 89 and Thomas the DH in 90 - but Baseball reference has Baines being "replaced" by Dan Pasqua, so I bow to BR and withdraw the question. I know there is an apples to apples answer to this though.

Joe Torre (HOF 2004) replaced Orlando Cepeda (1999 HOF) as the first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals for the 1969 season.

Damaso Garcia, Jays’ second basemen, was selected for the 1984 team and brought Griffin as his guest. Alan Trammell got injured warming up, and since Griffin was already there, the manager substituted him into the lineup.

I’ve lived in the Toronto area all my life and had never heard that story. Cool.
