According to the 2018 annual report Fresno had a circulation of 73,000 daily and 107,000 on Sundays. Fresno County has a population of just over 1,000,000.

If seven more go from the newsroom how many are left?

Some of Charlotte's senior reporters have announced they've taken the buyouts ... their education reporter (had been on the beat 17 years, and had worked at the paper 30-plus) and an award-winning food and features writer (another 30-plus year veteran) ... their "retirement" takes effect at the end of the month ...

Ugh ... but, as much as this stinks, it can't come as a surprise.

Don't know if it was planned that way or not, but veteran court reporter Pablo Lopez is retiring Feb. 28. But since we're a sports board, I don't know how many more cuts that section can take. One person on Fresno State, one preps/jucos and Marek Warszawski has been dabbling in news columns as well as sports.

I have stopped looking at the Sacramento Bee now that I subscribe to the Athletic but I don't think the paper has had a sports columnist since Aileen Voisin left last year.

    • Photographer John Sleezer
Between them, the employees accepting the buyouts have well over 200 years of combined experience at The Star.

  12. Sleezer is an amazing sports photographer. The Star took a huge loss.
