Some batting coach today would probably mess with that swing. Looks like Rod Carew patterned his swing a little bit from Robinson, with the low hands and horizontal bat.

Jim Bouton: I was warming up in the bullpen when a fan leaned out and said, "Hey Jim, how do you pitch to Frank Robinson?" I told him the truth. "Reluctantly," I said.

I always remembered that quote as "underground," but I guess I'm mixing that up according to the interwebs.

the Giants slogan one year was “hang in there.” That is going to take some time for me to process.

I read 82-83 as “take a giant shit and go.”

No discussion of Giants marketing is complete without Crazy Crab. Not to forget a sighting of legendary vendor Abe Souza.

That's a quote from Ball Four where the staff was discussing to pitch all the 1969 Orioles, not just Frank.

Robinson really had a remarkable career. Signed just six years after Robinson broke the color barrier. Played into the '70s when players like Reggie Jackson, Dick Allen and Dave Winfield played the game with more flair than he ever would have gotten away with.

I vaguely remember him as a great Oriole but he brought some needed discipline to the Giants in what ‘82 and gave them respectability.

Best story I love about Mr Robinson, only guy who kept Bill Russell on the bench (in HS). Think about how good he must have been in hoops.
