In a lawsuit against the Chiefs, their tax returns were part of the discovery, so they were released for public view for three years until the team got them sealed again. Kansas City Star reporters copied all of them, and their report reveals that it wouldn't matter if fans even showed up for the games because the teams are guaranteed to make money based on TV contracts and licensing alone.

Kansas City Chiefs’ tax returns provide rare look inside the business of pro football

Is anyone at all surprised by that revelation?

Not surprising at all. Players get roughly half of revenue - the team gets the rest and they're not paying non-field staff $5 mil a year (and people are surprised how few full-time non-players a football team has). Throw in sponsorship deals where travel and lodging expenses are probably heavily reduced for more savings. The electricity bill might be the biggest off-field expense for most football teams.

I thought this was common knowledge.

The moral of the story is, "legendary" QB does what he wants, tells coaching staff to F off. Repeat every 15 years.

Aren't the Packers a public corporation, and their books open to the public?
