To be fair, plenty of the acquiring teams are doing so because they actually want the player. The NBA owners could also change this if they wanted - keep contracts guaranteed, but if you cut a guy, it comes off your cap number - but I doubt they have the stomach for that.

Without a cap, there are teams like the Lakers that would have a 400 million dollar roster. And half the teams could field a team of D leaguers for 50 million for a roster, or less.

Isn't that just good old fashioned American capitalism? Funny how billionaire owners become socialists when it suits them.

I also didn't suggest no cap - just that you could cut players to reduce your cap number. You'd still have to pay them, but you'd have the space available under the cap again.

Now starts the part of the trade deadline where Woj and his ilk talk about which teams want certain players if they are bought out. Access has it's price.

Shame for Fultz; he appears to be a great teammate and nice person, I can’t recall any other player who fell so fast so far other than say Steve Blass. The guy went No.1 just last year. Hers wishing him getting back to where he was.

Damn, just read that Wes Matthews was going to Indy; he looked like a perfect add to the Ws. Of course, with the Oladipo loss,he'll get more PT with them and get to likely close games; no way w the Ws.

Last night's game showed the Ws at their best with the Hamptons 5, "small ball" lineup, the Spurs were running weaves looking for mismatches and the Ws kept switching. Through hustle and quick reactions, the Ws were able to avoid Curry iso and with Igoudala in for Cousins, no awkward isos on Cousins. Of course Spurs were without Aldridge, which would have made a slight difference.

I swear I think at least a third of the league has passed through Portland by now. They are great at identifying and developing players who are decent rotation players, six seventh and eight players who might get hot in a contract year and get a huge contract that makes them trade bait for the rest of their careers.
