Digital First pursuing Gannett

    It’s not over. There are lots of moving pieces right now among public newspaper companies and GCI has got to get its share price above $12 pretty fast in order to quiet shareholders. That means generating more revenue or more job cuts. The latter is more likely than the former.

    Gannett saw revenues decline by 127 million dollars in the first three quarters of last year. Gannett will to cut costs to make up the difference.

    Gannett just filled exec editor positions at its NJ papers. Poor optics, anointing high salary editors just after early buyouts and layoffs. Do they not see this?

    Gannett's board told Dickey to invest only in digital. That is why since Gannett stopped buying after the Journal merger. Maybe the board will change its mind after the DFM scare but I think that the first priority at Gannett will be figuring out who the new CEO will be.
