    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports Writer/Photojournalist

    Description:

The Journal, a seven-day paper in the booming Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, seeks a full-time sports writer/photojournalist to join a small but productive award-winning staff. The coverage area includes some high school with exceptional athletic programs as well as a strong Division II university with sports teams that regularly advance to the playoffs. We are looking for a versatile candidate who can write, edit, shoot pictures and work with page designers, as well as pitch in on occasion to help out the news department. Digital experience is a plus. We offer paid vacation, benefits and 401(k). Send cover letter, resume and 4-6 samples to Sports Editor Rick Kozlowski at rkozlowski@journal-news.net.

Way back in the day, this was a place that used to pop up on here every year or so. The threads were fun.

Ugh. So there’s a Martinsburg and a Martinsville, and one is is Virginia and the other is in West Virginia.

And I’d Don’t Know is at third base.

Yep. Whenever the Martinsville gig came open, the threads were quite entertaining mainly because that paper had a dreadful editor who has long since retired.

Martinsville has a NASCAR track in Southside Virginia. Martinsburg is in the Eastern Panhandle of WV near Harpers Ferry.

No one can afford to live within 50 miles of D.C. anymore, so yes, booming.

Martinsburg is a pretty decadent little city, from my experience. But they are right about having a D-II athletic power nearby in Shepherd.

There used to be horse racing pretty close, too, in Charles Town.
