McCarthy must not be the easiest to get along with.

As a Jets fan, I like the hire. They have had discipline and accountability issues and he seems like a good fit.

I don't know - the Dolphins and Jets both seem to be teams that it doesn't matter who is the coach - there are always disciplinary issues and locker room problems. The only QB Gase succeeded with is Peyton Manning. The sad truth is, coaches are getting whacked faster than they can develop new ones so GMs "take a flyer" hoping to find a Sean McVay to straighten out a QB who might be a bust.

Somewhere in the middle. You can't be too talent-poor when you have 12 under center, but his ability has papered over a lot for a while. Ted Thompson traded out of the first round in his last (2017) draft, and the only noteworthy picks from then are the current RB tandem of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. The 2013-15 draft classes have a grand total of three players still on the Packers roster (WR Davante Adams and OLs Corey Linsley and David Bakhtiari). To make up for a lot of the busts from those years, the strategy has been to draft multiple candidates at need positions. They took corners with their first two picks last year (Jaire Alexander, the first-rounder, was pretty good) and picked three wide receivers later on. In 2017, it was DBs with their two second-rounders and the two backs. If they stay on the same need-based strategy, they really need to get linebackers and O-line.

If they'd won a GD road game before Christmas, they would have been right in there. The roster needs work, but I don't think they got a lot of breaks either. They have two first-rounders this year (though the second one is the Saints' so that's probably not going to be a difference-maker). We'll see what some new blood does.

Texas Tech sure loves to fire people who end up enhancing their reputation elsewhere.

Joseph is black. @heyabbott does not like black people.

McCarthy also put it out there that he only wanted the Jets job. He overplayed his hand.

Can't speak for the Dolphins, but it has been true for the Jets since at least Rex. One of the disappointing thing with Bowles was that, while he was universally liked, he let players get away with things without meaningful consequences. You can't say that it is never going to change, you just have to address it head on.

I say this with no tongue in cheek...anyone else a bit surprised Jeff Fisher's name doesn't come up in these coaches rumors?
