    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports Reporter

    Description:

Sports reporter: A growing news organization in northern Wisconsin is looking for a self-motivated sports writer/photographer who will cover the local sports scene for a multi-weekly publication. The reporter will work as part of a composite editorial staff to bring home the story that tells more than just the headline. Job duties would include, but are not limited to, covering local high school sports for two area high school teams as well as nearly a dozen local middle schools in the area. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Writing and photography experience is preferred. If you are someone who takes value in local news, and realizes the effect reporting on even the simplest of community events can be, then this is a perfect opportunity for you to become part of a close-knit community in the heart of Wisconsin's vacation paradise. Please send complete resume, including 5 clips and references to: The Lakeland Times, P.O. Box 790, Minocqua, WI 54548 Attn: Gregg Walker or emailgwalker@lakelandtimes.com

Coverage for a dozen middle school teams? No thanks.

If you have two high schools in your coverage area, 12 middle schools seem like a lot schools that feed into them.

Those dozen middle schools will be all call-ins on my sports desk.

Some states have separate K-8 and high school districts (no idea about Wisconsin), so there may not definitely be feeder ties.

A dozen middle schools? So what they want is a butt-kisser for all of the parents there to write stories about how Lil Annie scored 4 points in the big middle school sectional game that was 12-10. Barf.

You haven't truly arrived unless you've covered Middle School State sports.

Yeah you can arrive without doing that. Next thing you know, this paper will want you to get on your knees to place the ball on the tee during the 7-year old Tee ball games

Do it with a helmet cam and put it up on said paper’s website. Oh the drama.

Cost-efficiency? Headband would suffice...then can do a concussion story also when you get smacked.

I assume the emphasis on middle school coverage is because that’s the highest level of education for many of the town’s residents

Is this in Manitowoc County? Be careful in those parts. Cops there are dirty.

Oneida County - three hours from Manitowoc. I think you were trying to be funny, as was the person who said nobody in Minocqua has an education above middle school, but come on guys, be better. Wisconsin is a great state with great people.
