    Met a woman years ago named Female (fem-ah-lee). She said that's what her mother wrote on the birth certificate in the hospital.

    I remember the volleyball calls from one town about 15 years ago. Four girls named Chloe. Three different spellings. (I'm not sure I remember the other two, Cloe and Khloe maybe?)

    I thought about this when I saw some of the comments on this thread.

    My dad was an elementary school principal in the 1970s. The school was in a really poor area. He had a couple of girls come through who were named Female (pronounced fe-ma-lee, as you said). I believe it was because when the moms didn't have a name for the baby, someone would just write "male or "female" on the birth certificate.
