Never made it there, but wanted to. Can't imagine dealing with this as a resident:

For decades, the municipality has been seeking a technological solution to protect the ancient city from floods like the one on Monday. It finally opted for the installation of a massive underwater floodgate system called MOSE. But a corruption scandal ultimately led to what infrastructure minister Danilo Toninelli has called an “unjustified and dangerous” paralysis. Construction has been at a standstill for years, while the huge feat of engineering lies unfinished at the bottom of Venice’s lagoon. Parts of it may already be damaged by seawater.

“You can’t let such a project stay unused,” Canestrelli said. “We’ve spent millions of euros, and now we’re letting it die down there?”

Paradise was Aaron Rodgers home town. Went to a wedding there once. Nice area.

And forget the Velveeta. Save Sierra Nevada!

They're expecting winds into the 50 MPH range overnight, per KHSL.

Watching some live streaming from the Chico area: 70,000 acres burned, 52, 000 evacuated, five fatalities, 5 percent contained. Schools throughout Butte County closed through next week.

But, yeah, California's water policies ... (apologies to Moddy in advance if this seems political)

And just because we're a sports journalism board: Check in with the Section offices on game cancellations/rescheduling. This area is in the Northern Section, but air quality issues from the smoke is forcing the North Coast Section to reshuffle the football playoff schedule. 49ers altered their practice schedule today and, although I know there's a separate thread for the SoCal blazes, the Rams cancelled practice today.
