    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports Reporter

    Description:

The Muscatine Journal is seeking a full-time sports reporter. We want a sports enthusiast who can cover local high school sports but is just as comfortable gathering information over the phone for multiple stories at the same time while writing cleanly and quickly on deadline. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to get a start in journalism or for a sports reporter in a weekly market to move up to a daily.

Our desired candidate must be savvy with technology and be willing to shoot photos and utilize forms of social media to enhance our coverage and audience. This daily publication covers one high school in a city of about 23,000 along with six surrounding high schools in Muscatine, Cedar and Louisa counties. The job requires nights, weekends, desk responsibilities and the ability to commute frequently from the Quad-Cities to Muscatine.

Please submit at least three clips with a cover letter and resume.

Muscatine is a Lee paper. Take that as you will, whether as a point of information or a warning.

One in-city school and six other area schools? Where do they find the time?

"The ability to commute frequently between the Quad-Cities and Muscatine."

It's about 30 miles, most of it on lightly-traveled, four-lane highway.

Being able to afford the gas for your car? That might be another story.

If there's a close commute to Tahoe, then consider me a candidate!

I was going to say, I think whoever writes sports in Dodge City would like to cover as few as six schools.

I work at a 6-day/week paper in a town half the size of Muscatine and we cover one in-city school and 10 other area schools.
