No where in OP's post did I get the impression his friend was baiting him to get an exam.

Ummm, yeah don't think that was what SP was saying. Think that was Twirling Time's joke.

I’m not proud of it, but I did this to a date once. In my defense, she was a vacuous idiot. And kind of racist.

Told her I was going to the bathroom, and just left. Gave cab fare to the bouncer and he said he’d give it to her.

    Which I'm SURE he did!

I've wanted to do it several times as I'm sure others have with me

I guess he thought that if you didn't care that he had beaten cancer why would you care if he went home unannounced.
    I don't blame him.
My thinking has always been life's too short to waste it on people who don't do it for you.
He may have the same motto since going through what he did.

    I wouldn't sweat it.
This is a personal view, but I don't want to go out on a social occasion and fuckin talk about cancer.
If somebody is going through bad shit and we're out having a drink my instinct is to pull away from the negative.

    I don't see how I could be self-absorbed. I don't know what he's talking about.

But enough about me. Let me tell you about me. ;)

    LOL.

There’s the sp sense of humor.

Tell us how your current car is doing.

    (Not how you drive it!)

Leaving before the fight? That's a breach of man code. Even if you all of a sudden discover you don't like your company, you can get lost in the TV and just keep the conversation to the fight/game/whatever. Heck, that describes 85 percent of the parties my wife has dragged me to over the years.

    "Didn't you have fun tonight?"
"I was fine. The game was on."
"Well, you seemed a little too attached to the TV."
"If the game wasn't on, you and I would have been outta there two hours earlier."
