That's too bad. Tebow stood a decent chance of being called up by the Mets in September.

There is some seriously bad juju around that team. It's like the '86 title was a deal with the devil. Gooden flaming out, Generation K crashing and burning, Matt Harvey, David Wright, the owners getting ripped off by Madoff, Alderson's cancer returning....

But, mainly the Dodgers and Giants leaving hurt the worst.

Good and bad news. It's not that hard to repair, but the timing is very bad. The hamate is actually in the wrist, just at the base of the fifth metacarpal (little finger). The typical break is the hook of the hamate, which projects forward on the palm side of the hand, and is the attach point for a couple of ligiments. They could open the hand and fixate it with a pin, but most likely they'll take off the hook entirely and reattach the ligaments.

It's not a huge surgery, but it will take time to heal. It also results in decreased grip strength in the little finger. I'll be amazed if Tebow is ready by the September call-up.

Lots of people who thought they had made a good bet are going to be out some cash. Absent injury, he’d have been called up.
