Everyone uses the board as a kind of therapy.

Some use it more successfully than others.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), previously known as venereal diseases (VD), were present among the populations of antiquity as well as during the Middle Ages. Clay tablets from Mesopotamia, Egyptian papyri, along with mythology, paintings of erotic scenes, and presence of prostitutes give sufficient information to assume that some form of urethral and vaginal discharge, and also herpes genitalis were present among people at that time, and that these diseases were considered a divine punishment. Some passages of the Bible say much about the sexual behavior of the ancient Hebrews. The writings of the Greek and Roman physicians and of their satiric poets (Martial, Juvenal, Ovid) described diverse genital diseases. Celsus described various diseases of the genitals, that he called the "obscene parts". Galen made a strange description of the female genitals and coined the term gonorrhea - flow of semen. The ancient Chinese and Indian physicians also gave some account on the presence of venereal diseases in their books, and the temple sculptures depict their sexual life. During the Middle Ages, numerous physicians and surgeons from Europe as well as from Arabic countries wrote on local diseases of the genitals, describing chancres, condylomata, erosions, pustules, urethral and vaginal discharge, and their treatment. Some were aware that the alterations were connected with sexual activity. In spite the fact the Christian church propagated abstinence, the spread of venereal diseases was possible because the diffusion of prostitution, communal baths, and wars. During the 19th century, some of the physicians and historians, especially J. Rosenbaum, F. Buret, and E. Lancereaux believed syphilis was as old as mankind, whereas later authors had the opinion the disease appeared at the end of the 15th century.

Trump, like STDs, is not going away.

Putting aside the psychological profiling, this is the part that concerns me. A huge percentage of this board's best discussions were either started or greatly-facilitated by Dick, perhaps more so than any other poster in recent years. He was not some troll that just annoyed, instead he was a really smart dude (admittedly with issues) that most of us liked and enjoyed conversing with. He added far more than he detracted.

I presume the owner of this place wants more traffic. Given that end, I fail to see how booting him was in the best interests of the site. As noted before, this place will be considerably more boring without him (not to mention some other prominent posters that seemed to disappear with him).

This is what you do, and you do it constantly: You think that people don't like you because of politics, because we let our liberalism or whatever stand in the way of what might otherwise be a productive friendship. It has nothing to do with your politics or my politics. You've gone after my family situation and my fathering abilities, despite our long private exchanges on the subject and my instincts to avoid you, more than anybody else on the board. (I can post some of those PMs to remind you if you would like.) I don't want to be your friend because you're an obtuse, arrogant asshole, and you've demonstrated your incredible ability to be an asshole over and over again. It's not me, it's you. But you can never blame yourself. It's always somebody else's fault.

I think a lot of that is right. My comment was in regard to those things applying to another poster. Even more so where need is concerned.

I’m not sure Dick needs the board as much as he needs debate. He loves it, and the board was better for it. And the thing about him is that debate trumps politics. On a long enough timeline, he tends to find common ground with other posters because of that. I get along with Dick great now, despite us not agreeing on much of anything politically. And this after I was one of the first people to mock him relentlessly (I must have made dozens of stupid treadmill jokes). The larger point is that you can put political differences (which inevitably lead to personal differences) aside if you truly care about debate and issues and not just “winning” an argument.

Dick could be a very good poster. But he was erratic in his moods. I have PMs from him, literally on the same day, wishing death upon me and then asking me how things were going. Not long before he got binned, I had an exchange with him where I told him he was doing so much better and how much I enjoyed our conversations, and he said he had changed and had learned from his last suspension and had been given his final warning and he knew it was serious. Then he went on his spree, putting the mods in an impossible place: You can't threaten a punishment that you will never give. Sometimes I wonder if he knew he couldn't quit this place and needed to quit this place, and this was his version of suicide by cop.

I'll agree that it kind of sucks that he's gone. Good Dick was a valuable member of the community. But he had too much shit going on to stay that way for any length of time.

By the way, he is sitting in his office right now, fucking loving that we're talking about him. Hi Dick! Hope you're well.

I just blamed myself for going too far on the post you are responding to. I’m a serial blamer of myself to be honest. Just my opinion, but I believe you’re projecting.

How many times have you gone too far? How many times am I supposed to forgive you?
