He spent most of his career batting 3rd.

EDIT: He batted third in 762 games, 225 at cleanup and 327 at fifth. He batted elsewhere in the order as well, but primarily he was a No. 3 hitter.

Did he? (Not arguing with you.) Is there a way to look this up?

He is kind of a New Age Hall of Famer. The numbers are there when you look at the end of his career, but I can't remember one thing he did -- moment, season, whatever -- that says "oh yeah that guy there, he's a legend."

A fairer overall system, but a culture change for sure.

Cano's plate appearances at all nine lineup positions:

    1- 11
    2 - 542
    3 - 3,299
    4 - 980
    5 - 1,415
    6 - 674
    7 - 1,027
    8 - 457
    9 - 257

    Slash line batting third: .295/.355/473
    Slash line batting fourth: .330/.392/.562

I also denounce myself for an earlier mis-statement of fact: Jeff Kent leads second basemen all-time in home runs.

He'll enter in the Bert Blyleven Wing.

That eludes me too. We come from that generation.

Hard to argue his overall numbers on offense and defense.

    During the 1924 season ...
Irrefutable proof that Red Sox fans didn't wait until 2004 to become assholes.

He hit really well in a couple of postseason series the Yankees lost and he was the Home Run Derby winner that one time, but yeah, that's about it. He hit .136 with no extra-base hits in his only World Series.

If Robinson Cano has the exact same career, but spends it all in New York, are we saying that he's pretty forgettable?

    He's had a swell career.

But he's been overshadowed everywhere. First by his own Yankee teammates, then by skyrockets like Puig and Trout and Harper.
