The Ringer has a piece about covering the Pelicans. Three 'non-bloggy' reporters, one whose paper prints home delivers three days a week and stopped going on the road when Cousins was injured, one for whom it is a second job, and the team's website guy.

How the New Orleans Pelicans Became the Loneliest Beat in the NBA

I don’t understand how you could (or why you’d want to) moonlight as a professional basketball beat writer.

I can see how you could, having virtually no competition in a soft market. He's not fighting every day for scoops against a stout local media and the national outlets. As for the "want to," there's a lot of people who would do it for peanuts, just to be on press row and feel like they're a part of it. Obviously around these parts, we don't see it as that romantic.

Orlando's down to about the same. A couple of former beat regulars string for AP. And Sports Exchange cutting back cost another former regular his lucrative stringing gig.

Last week I learned there is an NBA team called the Pelicans. Has this been going on for a long time?

The Orlando Sentinel does not have a beat writer on the most prominent pro team in their market?

Josh Robbins lists himself as Orlando Sentinel beat writer for the Magic .... and he just tweeted an item on their coaching search.

Josh is about the only regular newspaper person left.
