And BYU as well. Never understood why BYU bailed on the MWC in the first place, it's hurt their football program, and the WCC probably doesn't do much for their other sports either. Now that the Mtn. is kaput, maybe they go back. Maybe the MWC signs on with NBCsn?

The problem with what BYU was trying to do was it wasn’t Notre Dame. (Never mind Notre Dame isn’t Notre Dame anymore, but NBC pays it like it is.) Didn’t BYU get a deal with ESPN for home games? That’s swell but when your games get buried in a bad slot, it doesn’t mean as much.

It all came down about the same time Utah left the MW for the now-Pac 12. BYU figured the conference wouldn't be as strong without the Utes, who they still play OOC. Yet, this season, BYU plays Utah State, Hawaii and Boise State from the MW, while in 2017, it was Utah State, Boise State, San Jose State, Fresno State, UNLV and Hawaii.

Something else to consider: Bringing back BYU would give the MW 11 teams in football (recall Hawaii is a football-only member). Would they add another to keep the divisions balanced, or ax Hawaii?

There is really no need. Most teams like a bye at some point, sometimes two. And Hawaii has the exemption allowing it to play an extra game as well.

That's interesting. Mountain West is a good geographic fit, but without football, Gonzaga's really a Big East team that's unfortunately located on the wrong side of the country.

The WCC is actually a nice little basketball conference that’s come a long way. Probably better for Gonzaga to stay. Big East is out because of travel and since they don’t have football, they won’t fit in a power football conference.

The WCC used to be better, or at least less top-heavy, like one of those private catholic school leagues you find in the NE. St. Mary's and Gonzaga are decent, the rest of the league doesn't move many needles.

The MWC already has 11 full-time members who play FB. Affiliate Hawaii makes it 12 to balance the divisions.

The MWC should tell BYU to take a flying fuck, you already bailed on us once before and not playing on Sundays creates a scheduling nightmare. Shitcan Hawaii for football, add NMSU or UTEP in all sports and call it good.

A possibility for the American in replacing UConn would be to add Army or Air Force as a football-only school, like it currently has with Navy, and then add a successful basketball program.

That's just stupid. The Mt. West is not gonna let AFA bail for football, and remain in the conference for other sports. And AFA is not going to leave the Mt. West and it's decade-old regional, tradition rivals to fly 2500 miles to play at East fucking Carolina.

Army's football resurgence has been tied to improved coaching and a softer schedule, thanks to its independent status. Its time in Conference USA was a disaster. No need to change anything.

The American would be better served stealing someone like App State or Troy from the Sun Belt.

Just not seeing UConn going indie in football. There's really no other place for them to go, is there?
