It's sad about Kindred's wife, and that he has to deal with it every day.

But I, somehow, did not find this story to be sad.

I knew he'd been covering that girls' team. I did not know about his wife. I hope her journey is as comfortable as it can be.

Would have loved to have read the piece he wrote that got him in some hot water with the parents. I mean, c'mon, you gotta piss off some parents at some point. That's why sports writers are drawn to sports.

Beautiful soul, great writer. Many young journos don't realize just how powerful a voice Kindred was at the Washington Post, because he never became a TV persona. Kornheiser and Wilbon are great in their own ways, but Kindred was the section's quiet yet towering voice -- and yet just as gentle a presence in the press box. No knock on those who moved to TV; everybody's got mouths to feed. But there are few better examples of a sportswriter understanding his lane, working it perfectly, and gracefully toiling on when the hot-take world moves on. To have him recognized now is sort of stunning. Tip of the cap to all involved.

Dave is good people and has always been a great resource. Got to know him through my late father. Read him at the Courier-Journal while in college, and with the Post when I went back to D.C.

A great writer and an even better man.

60 Minutes starting now, except on the west coast, I presume. I have it DVRing, looking forward to seeing the Kindred segment.
