Today in cops gone feral

The truck driver was also a cop in another jurisdiction. They wanted his blood to prove he was clean and that impairment on his part did not contribute to the fatal crash. Because he was not considered a suspect in any way, they could not possibly get a search warrant because they had no probable cause that he had done anything wrong.

 

JFC, that is insane. Fire him immediately.

 

I'm withholding judgment until we determine if the nurse was an angel.

 

That first part is probably what Payne will lean on in a feeble defense of this.
"That was my brother, man! What would you do if you saw your brother laying there like that? Huh? HUH!?"

And I do get the rationale behind it, I guess. Even if the truck driver wasn't a cop, it could protect him on a number of levels. I even get the frustration of being told "no" for what can feel like silly bureaucracy by a mid-level employee. I think we've all been there when trying to chase down a phone number for someone and a secretary stonewalls us because they can.
It's still stupid. Silly bureaucracy is kind of what cops have to live by.

 

There are many sides.

 

Usually stories of manhandling a poor blonde nurse involve high-grade painkillers.

 

Some good people -- on both sides.

 

Not being able to take blood from unconscious people doesn't qualify as "silly bureaucracy" for me, but I'm a socialist.

 

That silly bureaucracy is better known as the United States Constitution and associated court rulings. The hospital didn't just make up that policy. It's settled law.

 

I'm seeing a lot of that these days. Especially when the middlin' types aren't shown the proper respect.
