But you were hard at work designing the Lunar Excursion Module at that time, so at least that was a distraction. :)

Someone mentioned Elvis Costello earlier. Always liked his back-to-back digs at John Lennon and Roger Waters:

Was it a millionaire who said "imagine no possessions"?
A poor little schoolboy who said "we don't need no lessons"?

(from "The Other Side of Summer")

And let's not leave out our 90s rockers, Veruca Salt:

I told you about the Seether before.
You know the one that's neither or nor.
Well here's another clue if you please,
    the Seether's Louise.

    (from "Volcano Girls")

Yes. It took us a couple years to get people to quit using the outdated and redundant "Excursion" in the name.

That is great, he really drove their great early records.

Not a reference so much as it is one of the greatest Beatles-type songs ever recorded:

I've cited it a couple times in the last month or so, but "Summer Rain" by Johnny Rivers in late '67-early '68, had to be the best in-song Beatles reference.

Until Billy Shears himself made a comeback in 1974:

With a little help from his friends Sir Winston O'Boogie and George O'Harrysong.

The Raspberries did a pretty great Beatles cop on their last album. People called bands like Raspberries ripoffs, but I think they did a nice spin on the genre.

My favorite blatant Beatles homage: "She Goes Out With Everybody" by The Spongetones.

Todd Rundgren and Utopia put out a good Beatles pastiche album, "Deface The Music," in Sept. 1980.

It got lost in the shuffle, first of John's own comeback with "Double Fantasy," and then the murder, so it never really got much attention among Beatles fans, but it's pretty good.

Your childhood memories are probably less accurate than you think

I wasn't quite 10 when the Beatles broke up. My first memory of music is that it seemed like every single song I heard on the radio was by the Beatles.
