Saddest Song of 70s??

    I think Rainy Night in Georgia was released in 1969. I remember slow dancing to this some with my first girlfriend.

    Hard think of it as a sad song, since it's got such an upbeat presentation, but "Brandy," from one-hit wonder Looking Glass.

    The Brook Benton version was released in 1970:

    It was written in the 1967 by Tony Joe White. I'm a big fan of his work. He also recorded at Muscle Shoals.

    When I moved south, this and the aforementioned patches became my favorite songs. Don't think I had ever heard either before.

    Also, it wasn't until seeing this video five years ago that I learned Tony Joe was actually white.
