YF, you are singlehandedly responsible for trying make Cynar popular.

I did comment to my wife last night that we need to buy a new bottle of it. The last (first) one lasted a while, but it's been in several cocktails of late, which were very good.

I tried it once, when I was in Venice on my honeymoon and my wife was getting her nails and I went across the street to a coffee bar. Some of the old guys were drinking it with their espresso so I gave it a chance. Not the biggest fan, but next time I'm at a cocktail bar and they have a drink with it, you've inspired me to give it another try.

Had a play on a Manhattan last weekend -- ingredients were Old Overholt & Rittenhouse Rye Whiskies, Amer Picon, Maraschino Liqueur, Sweet & Dry Vermouth(s), Bitters. Pretty good.

We went to Italy last fall, including Venice, and I didn't see as many Amaros as I expected in the bars we went into.

Man, as much as I've tried, I'm just NOT a cocktail guy. Sure, I enjoy an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan as much as the next guy, every now and again, but to get on with sugared-up, colored, twisted, frosted, and shaken drinks just isn't really my taste.

There's just 2 rules to live by:
    1. Don't punch a nun - unless they REALLY deserve it
    2. Only drink Manhattans

Rule 1, only use quality alcohol, top shelf or better
    Negroni
    Gin and Tonic
Margarita , which really is tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup and salt
    Campari Americano
    Vodka Gimlet

I missed this post at the time, but as noted, the cocktails we’re talking about here aren’t umbrella foo foo drinks.
