I really had only seen it as I whipped through my Facebook feed, but Mrs. Gator, a teacher, received a robo-call from the school district saying there had been a threat made against the school, that a clown was coming to kill students. I'm not always at the fore of pop-culture news, but this seems to be growing, even if most of the threats seem empty.

Spike in creepy clown sightings and hoaxes with more arrests

There were at least four clown stories on the state wire on Monday.

Someone speculated that it might be a PR stunt to promote the newest version of "It" that took on a life of its own. Clowns were supposedly seen near my high school in Nashville. If that was the case, I would suspect they were on staff there.

What's the big deal? We've had clowns on the payroll at Pitt for decades. Now Penn State has some too.

Betting the majority of hoaxes are from kids who want to cut class, or townie boyfriends who want to spend more time with their ninth- and tenth-grade girlfriends.
