The further from 2001 we get, the more it is going to become an abstract historical event for a lot of people -- like Pearl Harbor was for me when I was growing up. The people in that commercial were probably 6 or 7 when it happened. Even in the immediate months and years following 9/11, I got the feeling that for a lot of people around the country it was almost more like a CGI effect they saw on their TV than something real that had happened. I can't believe it is going to be 15 years on Sunday. It doesn't feel that long.

There will be people voting in this election who won't remember 9/11 at all. They were three.

I was born 15 years after WWII and it seemed like ancient history to me.

I'll never forget my daughter, when in third or fourth grade, asking me "what was the Cold War?" She was born in 1988.

Remember the day like it was yesterday. But, yes, the further we get away from it, the more abstract it becomes. Still, I like the fact MSNBC still replays the day as it unfolded in real time. It was mesmerizing ... and difficult. Still is.
