Final drop day for the summer session is tomorrow. Got this one in the email inbox today ...

"Hi professor, can you tell me what my average is? I need to decide whether to drop tomorrow."

    They've had two tests.

    And it's a statistics class.

Did you e-mail back and say that you can't answer because if you do it will be mean?

Nah, professor replies are triggers. Can't be having triggers.

I've told this anecdote before, but I had a student wander into my office many years ago during my first spring semester at the community college.
    I was administration, not faculty.
Kid is looking for his final exam.
I asked him what class it was, but he didn't know.
I asked him the instructor's name, but he didn't know.
I asked what subject it was but he didn't know.
I wanted to tell him there was probably no reason for him to even take the final exam

Did you hear the one about the constipated math professor?

He worked it out with a pencil.
