What the hell is Russia doing now?

This is a little unnerving. There's a bunch of chatter, but not a lot of concrete reports, that the U.S. military has gone to DEFCON 3 over massive and unusual military maneuvers in Russia in the past day or so. DEFCON 1 is nuclear war, DEFCON 2 is a heartbeat away from it, and DEFCON 3 is a heightened state of readiness.

There was an incident earlier this week in Syria where Russian planes bombed U.S. backed rebels. U.S. planes came in and tried to contact them, but got no answer and the Russians left. When the U.S. planes left to refuel, the Russians came back and dropped some more bombs.
Hopefully just some saber-rattling, but this doesn't feel like a good start to the week.

Judging by the score against Wales, not much.

I'm sure BTE will be along with word from the Politburo shortly.

Does the U.S. military generally release its DEFCON status to radio station websites?

The Twitter feed I linked to (and this, its parent site: The DEFCON Warning System) apparently monitors this stuff. The radio station site just pulled it all together.
Maybe it's all hysterical, fear mongering bullshit. I dunno.

Putin just wants to see who's got bigger balls, and better election rhetoric, Hillary or The Don.

Between the economy collapsing and the entire Olympic team getting banned from Russia, Putin had to show the world he's still the manliest of men.

Yeah, this might not go down as my finest hour on SJ.com.

The story on the incident in Syria is legit, at least.
